Der Aufstieg des Geldes
by Niall Ferguson
The book in one sentence
From the first markets to high-speed stock trading – Niall Ferguson explains the rise of our financial system.
My personal opinion
“Der Aufstieg des Geldes” is a well-researched (at least from my simple point of view) and well-written book about the world’s financial system.
Reading this book is a lot of fun. It’s one the kind you cannot put aside once you started reading. Niall Ferguson uses many anecdotes from history which make the book very entertaining.
I like this book and read it already twice.
To whom I would recommend this book
If you want to learn more about the history of our financial system this book is a great starting point! It starts with the early ages of trading and how money was “invented”. You will learn a lot about the beginning of stock markets and how our financial system became what it is today.
A good-read for all fans of history and economics.
What I learned from this book
- Having the opportunity to free yourself of debt and start again is one of the main characteristics of the American capitalism. (see Title 11 of the United States Code)
- A financial crisis is most of the times structured in five phases: 1) economic shift, 2) euphoria and overtrading, 3) bubble, 4) concern and 5) fright.
